Medical Marijuana for Cancer Pain Management
Cannabis for Cancer Pain
Cannabis has been shown to be an effective treatment for pain management, nausea, and vomiting. It’s also been shown to be effective in reducing the effects of chemotherapy. A few studies on cannabis for cancer pain have found that inhaled (smoked or vaporized) marijuana can be effective in treating neuropathic pain (pain caused by damaged nerves). Research in Israel has shown that cannabis can repair neuronal damage, including the brain and spinal cord. Edible cannabis products are also useful to treat symptoms but can take longer to take effect; however, the effects generally last longer as well.
Marijuana Strains for Cancer Treatments
Marijuana has been shown to be a successful treatment for many different types of cancer, including multiple myeloma, glioblastoma, and breast cancer. Marijuana is a natural anti-inflammatory, and it can also help with nausea, pain relief, and appetite stimulation. Different strains of marijuana are recommended for certain types of cancer: indica strains for anxiety, sativa strains for appetite, and hybrid strains for pain relief. Some people also choose to use marijuana as a way to help with depression and mood disorders caused by cancer. Some marijuana strains for cancer treatments include:
- Granddaddy Purple, a classic indica, to improve appetite and promote relaxation
- Super Lemon Haze, to provide energy and reduce nausea
